About me

Moana Whatu

who I am

Ko Waikato me Te Arawa nga Iwi

Ko Ngati Whawhakia me Ngati Whakaue nga Hapu

Kia ora and welcome, my name is Moana and I come from Aoteraoa NZ and am a descendant of the Waikato and Te Arawa nations.  I also have lineage that links me to the UK, Ireland, Scotland and Nordic European regions.

My intention whenever I am painting is to be open to the invitation to explore who we are, what is influencing us right now and what do we want to do with this information.  How can we bring forward our own unique voice, light and essence in these furiously changing times?

I live for soul speaking transformative art, medicine and story art that honours our cultural legacy and celestial lineage, bringing in a new perspective. Every painting I do is infused with the energy of Aroha/Compassion and Hope.

My focus is to create and share art that inspires curiosity and celebration of who we are and our connections.

I am hugely influenced and inspired by our natural world, the  environment, nature and animal allies.  I find the Jungian perspective on how we conceptualise and socially construct our  identity through the archetypes.  You will see these in my paintings. What informs us to our greater good? My intention has become to nurture my creative spirit and continue to  stay curious with all sorts of methods of expression in my art.
